Lots of Celtic fans have been talking about an update regarding Hajduk Split defender Mario Vuskovic.

Croatian outlet Dalmatinski (via the Daily Record; 11:46) has recently provided an update about Vuskovic, claiming that the Hoops were close to signing the defender but they ended up pulling the plug on a potential deal when they began chasing Rubin Kazan defender Carl Starfelt.

Will Celtic regret not signing Vuskovic?

Vuskovic was even left out of Hajduk Split’s squad for a recent friendly, following claims he was preparing for a move to Parkhead. The Hoops are now close to sealing the deal for Starfelt, who will have a at the club soon.

The news about Vuskovic drew the attention of many Celtic fans, who began talking about this rumour.

“Reluctant to believe anything in the media but if true the fans claiming it’s down to the board may be slightly embarrassed. Good that the manager is having the last say.

“Ange pulling the strings. Kept hearing from some fans Ange is a yes man because of the politics of the board.”

“As much as I wanted Vuskovic, it’s good to know that Starfelt is his preferred choice! Backing the manager!
“Should be selling Ajer and going for both, gone, Welsh still not starting 11-ready and not to mention how injury-prone is.

“Don’t get why we aren’t getting both tbh.”

Vuskovic doesn’t just have the experience of playing regular first-team football, the youngster also has the experience of playing in Europe. And that could’ve come in handy for Celtic. Starfelt doesn’t offer that European experience yet and playing in the Champions League or the Europa League will be new for him.

Celtic fans can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players. First up, who is this?

Vuskovic is also younger and therefore offers more potential to improve and grow. Since Celtic have the habit of selling players for a profit, they could’ve sold the Croatian on for a higher fee in the future, so Celtic fans should be disappointed to have turned their backs on him.
