Many Celtic fans have slammed Vasilis Barkas, as the Greek goalkeeper featured in the club’s pre-season friendly against Sheffield Wednesday.

Barkas started between the sticks for the Bhoys, as Albian Ajeti was handed the captain’s armband by Ange Postecoglou. Stephen Welsh also started in the game and so did right-back Anthony Ralston. Summer signing Liam Shaw also started against his former club.

The Bhoys fell behind early in the game as ex-Gers man Josh Windass found the back of the net. But many Celtic fans weren’t pleased by Barkas’ showing in the game. They made their views clear about him.

What did Celtic fans make of Barkas?

“First 30 minutes weren’t too bad! First few minutes we looked nervous conceding the goal but after that the youngsters werent bad. Henderson probs been our best player. Shaw, Welsh and Montgomery been decent as well. Would just like to see Barkas make a save.”

Barkas had failed to be a regular in the 2020/21 campaign for the Bhoys, as Celtic used three different goalkeepers throughout last season (as per WhoScored).

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Bhoys this summer, but those rumours seem to have died down.

So Celtic fans may have to see the goalkeeper play for the club more often over the course of the next campaign, and while they may not have enjoyed this recent performance from him, there are still a lot of games to be played, so casting a judgement on him during pre-season may not be fair on the goalkeeper.
