Following the departure of Scott Brown earlier this year, the club has been looking for someone to take the armband moving forward, and they have found it in the form of the 28-year-old midfielder, who was announced as the new skipper.
McGregor has so far made 325 appearances for the club, having come through the ranks at Parkhead and has stood in as captain on occasion before most notably last season, and speaking upon the announcement, head coach Ange Postecoglou stated: “He knows what it takes to be a successful Celtic player, and he knows what it means to captain this club, and I’m delighted that he will be wearing the armband and leading the squad going forward.”
Will Ange Postecoglou be a success at Celtic?
“Least this confirms Calmac is staying at @CelticFC & is much needed as he would a been a massive loss. Now Calmac be that ruthless captain and make sure the team gives all in every game”
Following in the footsteps of Brown, he has a lot to live up to when it comes to bringing success to the club, so let’s see whether or not he is going to be up to the challenge.
