Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

On the subject of Edouard, who has been linked with a move to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion in recent days, Castles had this to say on the situation, including news of Brighton’s bid.

He said: “Edouard is available, wants to leave Celtic, Celtic want to get money for him before his contract expires next summer.

“My understanding is that they’ve made an offer to Celtic of £18 million initially, with a further £3.5 million in performance-related variables.

“There would also be a sell-on clause in the deal, a variable sell-on clause where the percentage of the fee going to Celtic should Brighton sell Edouard down the line changes according to the amount Brighton are paid for the player by any future club.

“I’m hearing that they’re quite confident they can get this deal done now.”

Celtic originally signed Edouard on a loan deal from French club Paris Saint-Germain back in the 2017 summer transfer window before securing him on a permanent deal in the next summer window for a fee of £9.27 million.

Overall, the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £15.3 million according to Transfermarkt, has made a total of 169 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions in which he has managed to score 83 goals and provide 37 assists along the way.

TIF Thoughts on Duncan Castles’ comments on Brighton’s chase for Edouard…

Given how only five teams managed to score fewer goals than Brighton (40) in the Premier League last season, it’s easy to see why the club are trying to work out a deal to sign Edouard considering how many goals he has under his belt at Celtic.

Would you be disappointed if Edouard left Celtic this summer?

No

However, from a Celtic point of view, Ange Postecoglou’s side will have to make sure they sign another striker to come in and replace the Frenchman if he does depart this summer considering he has been their top goalscorer in the SPFL for the past three seasons.

This, presumably, would be an easier task for the Hoops if they manage to pick up a significant transfer fee for him.
