Podcaster Anthony Haggerty has recently issued some criticism for Celtic striker Albian Ajeti.

Ajeti had joined Celtic from West Ham United in the summer of 2020 for a fee of £4.5 million. On signing, the Swiss striker had talked about forming a striker duo with Odsonne Edouard. The Frenchman though, has been linked with a move to Brighton recently.

Haggerty talked about Ajeti, when he appeared on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and one topic of discussion was the club’s strikers.

Is Ajeti good enough to replace Edouard?

Haggery feels that while Ajeti did well in the first friendly, he has failed to impress in the last two games and Celtic will need more from him.

He said (9:48): “I liked Ajeti’s attitude [in the] first couple of games. But the last couple of games – he has reverted to type. He’s gone missing. You need more than that, if you’re going into the Champions League against any opposition.”

TIF Thoughts on Ajeti…

Ajeti couldn’t play regularly for the Bhoys in the 2020/21 campaign, as he scored only six times and played just 19 times in the Premiership for the club. In the Europa League group stages, the striker played just 163 minutes of football (as per Transfermarkt).

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

This shows that he didn’t have a great time and he needs to do more to fulfill the fee that he joined the club for. Since Edouard has been linked with a move away from the club, Ajeti now has to take responsibility and start performing well. Or the money that Celtic spent on him could be a waste.
