Pundit Alex Rae has recently talked about the idea of Shaun Maloney returning to Celtic this summer.
Maloney has been linked with a move to Celtic in recent weeks, as it was reported that the Scotsman has already held talks with Peter Lawwell and the Hoops were hoping that the emotional pull could see him return to the club.
Rae appeared on the latest edition of Clyde Superscoreboard and one caller talked about the idea of Maloney returning to Parkhead. Rae believes that the Scotsman might just like the idea if Celtic do hand him the opportunity of a comeback.
Do you think Maloney can return?
Rae stated: “I think he’s well regarded. Whether he would take that on, I don’t know because of his situation – you don’t know [whether] Martinez is going to remain at Belgium, whether he’s going to move back to club football. So I think that’s a wee bit up in the air as well.
“But if that was offered to Shaun Maloney, maybe give him food for thought, what direction he may well go down. Because he’s obviously got an affiliation with Celtic, he may well come back for this project they’re undertaking at the moment.”
TIF Thoughts on Maloney…
Maloney has played for Celtic in the past and his coaching career began at Parkhead too, as the Scotsman was the assistant manager of the youth sides.
The Hoops are undergoing a transition period and while Ange Postecoglou has come in, he has arguably never managed a club as big as Celtic before. Maloney is someone who knows Celtic well and he’s now got the experience of handling things abroad, too.
So bringing Maloney in may not be a bad idea at all and Celtic should be looking to sign him this summer as it could only help the start to Postecoglou’s reign.
