Wolves podcaster Dave Azzopardi has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the club potentially making a move to sign Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma this summer.
This comes after Azzopardi featured on a recent video from the Talking Wolves YouTube channel where he spoke about a range of topics concerning the Midlands club.
After it was recently reported by French journalist Julien Maynard that Wolves are among a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing Zouma this summer, and Azzopardi had this to say on the matter. (7:02)
He said: “If this is legit and Wolves are putting themselves in a position to look at this calibre of player and look at signing this sort of player, I think that’s very, very decent.
“And again, I think he would cost you at least about £30m, £40 million you could say, so if Wolves genuinely do have an interest and are willing to spend that amount of money on a centre-back, I think it could be a very, very interesting couple of weeks.
“Very, very interesting to see what Wolves do, not just maybe with Zouma, but in the future with more high-profile centre-back signings.”
Chelsea signed Zouma back in the 2014 January transfer window from French club Saint-Etienne for a reported fee of £12m.
Since then, the 26-year-old has had loan spells at Everton and Stoke City as well as ending the 2013/14 season on loan at Saint-Etienne after he officially signed to Chelsea.
Overall, the defender, who is currently valued at £28.8 million, has made 150 appearances for the London club across all competitions in which he has managed to score 10 goals and provide 6 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).
TIF Thoughts on Dave Azzopardi’s comments on a potential Wolves move for Zouma…
Given how Wolves managed to concede more goals (52) throughout the 2020/21 Premier League season than they had in their two prior seasons in the top flight, perhaps targeting a centre-back such as Zouma, who has played a total of 165 games in the Premier League throughout his career, would be a smart move for the club this summer.
Would you like to see Wolves make a move for Zouma this summer?
Yes
No
However, with the Frenchman ending the season as Chelsea’s second-highest rated player for his performances in the Premier League with an overall rating of 7.07/10 according to WhoScored, this could potentially make Chelsea reluctant to sell him this summer in our view.
