West Ham United podcaster Dave Walker has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the east London club making a move to sign Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips during the current summer transfer window.

This comes after Walker co-hosted a recent edition of The West Ham Way Podcast, where he spoke about a range of topics concerning David Moyes’ side.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

On the subject of Phillips, who has been recently linked with a move to West Ham according to a report from The Athletic, Walker had this to say about the player, of whom the report also claims is valued at £15 million by Liverpool.

He said: “I like him. I mean, I haven’t seen a hell of a lot of him, but what I’ve seen of him, I do really like.

“I thought he was outstanding when he played against us, I think he got Man of the Match that night as well.

“Really, really good, I just think he’s big, he’s strong, he’s good in the air, he’s quite commanding.

“I think he’s only 24 and he’s also English, so for that money, I’ll take him, because £10 million – if that is accurate – is a steal, in my opinion, well worth a punt.”

Phillips, who joined Liverpool’s U23 side from Bolton Wanderers’ U23 side back in 2016 for an undisclosed fee, made his senior debut for the Reds back in January 2020 in an FA Cup victory over Everton.

Since then, the 24-year-old, who is currently valued at £7.2 million according to Transfermarkt, has made 21 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side in which he has managed to score one goal and provide one assist in the process.

TIF Thoughts on Dave Walker’s comments on a potential West Ham move for Phillips…

Given how Phillips ended the 2020/21 season as Liverpool’s second-highest-rated player with an overall performance rating of 7.29/10 according to WhoScored, higher than the likes of Roberto Firmino, Thiago Alcantara and Mohamed Salah, it’s easy to see why Walker is a big fan of the defender and why he thinks the Hammers should make a move to sign him this summer, especially with him being linked with a move away from Anfield.

Do you think West Ham should sign Nat Phillips this summer?

In our view, given how well the Englishman did for Liverpool last season in terms of his league performances that saw him on the receiving end of praise from Klopp when he won Liverpool’s Player of the Month award for March, perhaps adding him to West Ham’s defensive ranks could be a good bit of business for the club this summer.
