West Ham United podcaster ‘Gonzo‘ has been discussing a potential move for Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham.

Recent reports have suggested that West Ham United are in ‘pole position’ to sign the 23-year-old, who, based on his time under Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, doesn’t seem to have much of a future in west London, leading a number of clubs to take an interest in signing him.

And speaking on the latest edition of Hammers Chat, Gonzo discussed the finances of the deal and said that a potential move by Abraham to the London Stadium would be a smooth one for the Hammers to make, especially if they could get it done at the right price:

“Looking at the boxes that he does tick, I think actually there’s a chance, and when you start hearing that the price may be more around the £25m mark – add-ons taking it up to £30m – you start to think, ‘Ah, now we’re looking a little bit different.’

“Because obviously £40m is £15m more, you don’t need me to do the maths for you – it’s too much, too pricey, too steep.

“£25m and then, West Ham qualify for Europe again, or he scores 15 goals, whatever the case may be, you end up paying £30m, you think ‘okay, I get it, because that’s Benhrama money right? That’s what we paid for him there’.

“We know we’re capable of paying that, we know we’re willing to pay that and Moyes would certainly not think twice about shelling that out for someone like that.”

Should West Ham target Tammy Abraham this summer?

Centre-forward is certainly an area that West Ham need to focus on this summer, as they only have the one natural striker on their books in the shape of Michail Antonio, and given his injury record, his place in the starting eleven is far from guaranteed.

And having qualified for the Europa League, that depth is going to be all the more important for them if they look to compete on multiple fronts, while the necessity for someone with European experience who will be comfortable both in Europe and domestically arguably makes Abraham the perfect man for them to consider bringing in.

It would certainly be a real coup for them with that in mind, especially if they can agree on a deal at the right price, as Gonzo suggests.
