West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the east London club potentially signing Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard during the current summer transfer window.

This comes after Ex co-hosted a recent episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, where he spoke about a variety of topics surrounding David Moyes’ side.

Nice easy one to start off with. How much do you think Declan Rice is worth?

During the podcast, Ex had this to say about West Ham’s interest in signing Lingard and whether or not the imminent arrival of Jadon Sancho at Old Trafford could have any impact on West Ham’s chances of signing their former loan star.

He said: “As I’ve mentioned before, we do want to sign a centre-back, we are after Lingard as well for midfield, although things don’t seem as promising as they did a couple of weeks ago.

“I think it’s going to be interesting to see what [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] says to Lingard, because I think the way that he’d be looking at it is that [Jadon] Sancho is more of a winger, whereas Lingard is more of an attacking midfielder maybe now, and so it’s not a direct link.

“And I think Sancho going to them is helpful for us, but it’s just whether Lingard is prepared to give up the ghost and come to West Ham or if he’s going to fight for his place, and also how realistic Manchester United are going to be for a transfer.

“We’re obviously desperate to sign Lingard, but there’s a couple of factors counting against that move a little bit.”

TIF Thoughts on Ex’s comments on a potential move for Lingard…

During his recent spell at the London Stadium, the 28-year-old, who is currently valued at £19.8 million, managed to score nine goals and provide five assists in 16 appearances for the Hammers in the process (per Transfermarkt).

Given how much of an impact Lingard in terms of scoring goals and providing assists during his spell at West Ham last season, it’s understandable, in our view, that the club would be wanting to sign him again this summer to bring him back to east London.

Do you think Jesse Lingard would want to return to West Ham?

Yes

Yes

No

No

In our view, with Bruno Fernandes making a total of 58 appearances for the Red Devils last season whilst predominantly playing in the attacking-midfield position, it seems unlikely that Lingard would be getting regular playing time in that position if he were to stay at Old Trafford this summer, which would make a move to West Ham the better option in that regard.
