Journalist Samuel Luckhurst has recently provided a positive update involving West Ham United target Jesse Lingard.
Lingard had spent the second half of the previous season on loan at West Ham and he impressed during that period. The Hammers want to sign the Englishman permanently this summer and the midfielder is expected to hold talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer soon.
Do you expect West Ham to sign Lingard?
Yes
No
Luckhurst appeared on the latest episode of the Manchester is Red podcast and spoke about Lingard, providing an update about the player’s future.
The journalist refuted claims regarding United handing Lingard a new deal and he believes that it is ‘strange’ for Lingard not to have reported to Man United’s training ground by now.
Luckhurst said: “Jesse Lingard is a bit of a strange one because there have been some rumours that he might even get a new contract which I mean, funnily enough, I’ve not written that line because I don’t believe it myself.
“But he’s not back in Carrington yet, which is a little bit peculiar even though he was with the England camp just before the Euros started, you’d have thought that he might be back at Carrington pretty soon.”
TIF Thoughts on Lingard’s future…
The fact that United aren’t offering Lingard a new deal should be good news for West Ham, as they may be able to sign the player for a cheaper fee if that’s the case. Lingard’s current deal runs out next summer anyway, which is another factor that might help the Hammers.
West Ham may have Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals as options for the attacking-midfield spot, but Lingard’s goal contribution tally last season was very impressive. So they might end up improving their standards in that position, which suggests that signing Lingard would be a good move.
