Joe Masi has been talking about how much West Bromwich Albion could sell Sam Johnstone for on the latest episode of the Baggies Broadcast podcast, amid West Ham United’s reported move for the goalkeeper.

Johnstone made his England debut earlier this summer in a friendly against Romania after enjoying a successful personal season in the Premier League last time out, as he made the most saves of any other ‘keeper with 161 (according to FBRef).

Who should West Ham sign?

Areola!

Johnstone!

Johnstone!

The West Brom shot-stopper has been linked with a move to West Ham this summer as the Hammers saw their first bid of £6m rejected. Considering he is now an England international and Aaron Ramsdale is reportedly a £30m player, it’s easy to see why that bid was rejected.

The future and valuation of Johnstone was the topic of conversation as Express & Star journalist Masi had his say.

“Six million is a joke, I think £12m is the right fee for Johnstone this summer. That probably means you’d have to concede at £10m.

“So if West Ham came in with an £8m bid, you could sort of see what they were doing because you obviously always go low for your opening bid, but six million?

“Albion had no choice but to reject that out of hand – you can’t even carry on the conversation.”

TIF thoughts on West Ham’s pursuit of Johnstone…

The Hammers appear determined to bring in a new ‘keeper this summer with Lukasz Fabianski out of contract next year and the Poland international is now 36 years old, so it makes sense that David Moyes is planning for life without his current No 1.

Nice easy one to start off with. How much do you think Declan Rice is worth?

It’s not just Johnstone that the Hammers have been interested in, as reports claim that Moyes is interested in bringing Alphonse Areola to the London Stadium after the Frenchman spent a season on loan at Fulham last season, earning a 6.74 WhoScored rating.

So perhaps the Hammers were just weighing up their options, though it seems that their approaches have not gone down too well in the Baggies camp.
