Transfer insider Dean Jones has been speaking on the latest episode of The Football Terrace’s The Done Deal Show on YouTube to discuss all things transfer-related.
The transfer expert discussed the future of Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard following the conclusion of his loan spell with West Ham United.
Will Lingard join West Ham this summer?
Lingard spent the back-end of the 2020/21 campaign with the Hammers and has been linked with a permanent switch to the London Stadium this summer.
The 28-year-old made 16 appearances for the Hammers in the Premier League last season in which he was able to add nine goals and five assists to his name (via Transfermarkt).
Discussing the potential future of Lingard, Jones had the following to say on the matter.
“I’ve seen it mooted, Declan Rice and Jesse Lingard swap deal that’s not going to happen. Those players aren’t going to swap.
“And the other thing is as part of that, one of the reasons Lingard loved being at West Ham was because he loved Declan Rice. Declan Rice is a big part of why West Ham have been so successful, big personality – Lingard’s got a similar personality, they got on really well. And he loved that.
“And so, if Declan Rice did leave, it might affect it. I’m not saying it definitely would, but it might affect it.”
TIF Thoughts on Lingard’s future…
This will be a worry for West Ham fans. Declan Rice’s future with the Hammers is currently under speculation, with Jones also admitting on the YouTube show the 22-year-old midfielder is considering his future with West ham.
With Jones questioning Rice’s future at West Ham, this could potentially become a double-whammy for the West Ham faithful.
If Rice is to potentially depart this summer, from what Jones has said, it could prevent Lingard from returning to the London Stadium this summer, which could certainly be a blow to the fans and the team ahead of their Europa League campaign.
