Dean Jones has dropped a claim on The Football Terrace’s The Done Deal Show about who West Ham United could look to sign this summer.

The Hammers have only brought in Craig Dawson this transfer window, which means their squad is arguably weaker than last season considering Jesse Lingard is no longer at the London Stadium, and with Europa League fixtures set to come this season, new faces will be needed to increase squad depth.

Should West Ham sign Phil Jones?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Adding to the general squad will be important, especially in the final third considering they no longer have their talisman Lingard and currently only have one recognised striker at the club in Michail Antonio – and even he saw himself miss 13 games last season.

Jones, however, was speaking about defensive reinforcements for the Hammers on The Done Deal Show.

“To be honest, half of the Premier League would be interested in signing Phil Jones. West Ham, for example, have been interested in Phil Jones for quite a while, David Moyes really likes him.

“What they need to know is, with Phil Jones, what’s his next contract going to be, what’s he looking for? Because realistically, all they’re going to offer him is a low base figure which is highly incentivised by appearances, because you’ve got to do that, because you don’t know what you’re going to get out of him at this point.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham going for Jones…

There have been reports suggesting that West Ham could move for Jones, and following reports that Machester United could look to release the defender as a free agent, considering that he hasn’t featured since the 2019/20 season, it would make sense for all concerned.

Nice easy one to start off with. How much do you think Declan Rice is worth?

Currently, Moyes can call upon the likes of Issa Diop, Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna to play in the heart of defence,e but being able to add someone like Jones, with winning experience both domestically and in Europe, potentially as a free agent, would potentially be an astute piece of business for the Hammers.
