Football journalist Pete O’Rourke has been speaking about all things transfer-related on the latest episode of The Football Terrace’s The Done Deal Show on YouTube.

The former Sky Sports man spoke about Tottenham Hotspur and their reported interest in Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

It is believed Spurs are closing in on a potential deal for the Japanese centre-back, with a bid of €18m (£15.4m) already put forward to the Serie A club.

Tomiyasu featured frequently for Bologna in the 2020/21 campaign, with the 22-year-old making 31 appearances in the Serie A alone (via Transfermarkt).

Discussing the reported interest from Spurs in the centre-back, O’Rourke had the following to say on how a potential deal is progressing.

“If he’s coming to England, it’s going to be Tottenham. From what I’m hearing, this deal is pretty far advanced. Daniel Levy’s still continuing talks with his officials at Bologna to try and get this deal done.

“The player is very keen on this move to Tottenham as well, which is a good sign for them.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ transfer activity…

Pre-season has now begun for Tottenham, with some of their players returning to Hotspur Way as Nuno Espirito Santo looks to embed his philosophy on the side.

However, there are no new signings. Going by what O’Rourke had to say, it would seem the £18m-rated defender is probably the closest to being agreed upon.

It has been reported that Spurs are looking to bring in two new centre-backs this summer.

Although Tomiyasu has 60 Serie A appearances to his name, if Toby Alderweireld is to leave, we feel Spurs need a centre-back with a lot of experience given they’d have a rather youthful-looking defence without the Belgian.
