journalist Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast to discuss all things transfer-related.

One deal that Romano shed light on was the reported agreement between and Tottenham Hotspur in exchanging Bryan Gil and .

Will you be happy to see Lamela leave?

It is believed that Spurs will send Lamela to Sevilla with €25m (£21.5m) in exchange for the 20-year-old Spanish winger.

Gil spent the 2020/21 campaign out on loan at SD Eibar, where he was able to find the back of the net on four occasions and provide three assists (via Transfermarkt).

Discussing what the Spanish winger could bring to Spurs, Romano revealed a comparison made by some people he knows between Gil and Juventus’ Federico Chiesa.

“Tottenham are signing a fantastic player, because sources close to this deal told me this guy, Bryan Gil, is like [a] Federico Chiesa style of player.

“This is what Tottenham think about it. He could be a signing like what they did at Juventus with Federico Chiesa with Fabio Paratici one year ago. Now it could be like the Spanish Federico Chiesa.

“They are convinced that this player is amazing. He could be one for the present and one for the future. So it’s almost done.”

TIF Thoughts on this reported deal…

We think this is a great move from Tottenham. We feel offloading Lamela and his £80k-per-week wage is a move that they have put off for too long given his poor goal return and frequent injury issues.

In Gil, Spurs are potentially signing a highly-acclaimed young talent. We think it will be interesting to see what role he will play in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad in the upcoming season.

One thing which we are certain of is Spurs fans should give Gil time to adapt to his new life in England. We have already seen Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso take time to get up to speed with the Premier League, and Gil could well experience the same issues.

However, if Romano’s comparison between Gil and Federico Chiesa proves to be true, then Spurs will have an extremely promising player on their hands.
