Image for Tottenham Hotspur: Romano reveals Nuno’s desire to sign Romero

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on his latest Twitch stream about all things transfer-related.

One name which the Italian did mention was Atalanta defender Cristian Romero amid the speculation linking him with a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Will Spurs secure the signing of Romero this summer?

According to reports, the north London side are in ‘advanced’ talks with the Serie A side over a possible summer swoop for the Argentine defender.

A deal for the 23-year-old is expected to cost Tottenham in the region of €55m (£47m) and Spurs have reportedly already offered Atalanta €40m (£34.1m) plus €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons – which has been rejected.

Speaking on the matter, Romano had the following to say.

“There is still no agreement. An important part of the negotiation will be about the timing of payments – so in how many years will Tottenham be paying for Cristian Romero to Atalanta.

“I’m told that also Nuno [Espirito Santo] is pushing a lot to get this player – he loves this player. And that’s why Tottenham are convinced about Romero.”

TIF Thoughts on Romero to Spurs…

We feel this would be a great bit of business for Tottenham if they were able to get it over the line given how much Romero has impressed over the last season.

However, we do wonder where it would leave Spurs if they were unable to get this deal secured. It is believed that reported Tottenham target Jules Kounde is now in talks with London rivals Chelsea, while reports have since emerged suggesting that Spurs are in fact ‘unwilling‘ to meet Atalanta’s asking price.

Spurs are looking to revamp their defence this summer, and we feel they need a top-class centre-back following the departure of and if it is not to be Romero then we wonder who they will turn their attentions to.
