Jason McGovern has been speaking on the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast to discuss his hopes for this summer’s transfer window.

One area which Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be looking at addressing this summer is their defence and the central defensive position in particular.

Would you like Spurs to sign Coady this summer?

It is reported Spurs are aiming to bring in two new centre-backs this summer, with Toby Alderweireld believed to want a summer move away from north London.

With Nuno Espirito Santo now in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, McGovern spoke of his desire to see Wolverhampton Wanderers’ captain Conor Coady sign for Spurs this summer.

“I would love to go and get Coady, who I think is a leader at the back. If you could get Coady, I’d definitely partner him with [Joe] Rodon and that would be my pairing.”

TIF Thoughts on Tottenham’s defensive issues…

Spurs suffered from defensive woes under Jose Mourinho last season, which saw the Lilywhites finish in an underwhelming seventh place in the Premier League.

It is said Alderweireld wants a move away this summer and Davinson Sanchez is free to leave if the correct offer comes in.

Spurs have been heavily linked with Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna, however, we feel the defence would be missing a leader and experience if Alderweireld is to get his move.

Wolves skipper Coady, who is valued at £22.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), could provide some leadership values to Spurs, but does he provide the quality for Spurs to challenge for a top-four spot? Only time will tell if his rumoured move comes to fruition.
