The Athletic’s Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Charlie Eccleshare has featured on their latest edition of The View from The Lane podcast to discuss all things Spurs.

One topic of discussion was the club’s search for a new permanent manager, which came to a conclusion last week with the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Will Dele Alli find his best form under Nuno?

Yes

Yes

No

No

A name that was reported as being a potential candidate for the Spurs manager role included Antonio Conte, with talks between the two parties reportedly breaking down.

However, Eccleshare discussed what effect the breakdown in talks with potential candidates may have had on the Tottenham players.

It’s interesting because in the piece I done today on what the players think, a couple of things I’ve heard is that it really wasn’t a great look for the players to see that all these managers were turning the club down and that it seemed like the club didn’t have a great plan.

“Because if you’re a player, you’re kind of like, ‘great, this isn’t really a particularly desirable destination, it seems, for elite managers. This isn’t a group that elite managers particularly want to work with.’

“And I think that is quite damaging to their sense of self-esteem and this sense of where Tottenham are right now.”

TIF Thoughts on Eccleshare’s comments…

The arrival of Fabio Paratici has reportedly already put the future of certain players in doubt, with the new director of football believed to have told certain individuals to find a new club.

However, for some players, they may view the arrival of Espirito Santo as a new start at Tottenham. One player, in particular, may be Dele Alli, who did not enjoy a lot of action under Jose Mourinho.

Equally, if some of the players are feeling a knock to their self-esteem following the managerial saga, we think they should be using that as fuel to prove any doubters wrong in the upcoming Premier League campaign.
