A lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts on a video to emerge on the club’s official account.
On Tuesday afternoon, the north London side tweeted a farewell video from their former defender Toby Alderweireld following his switch to Al-Duhail SC.
Was it right to sell Alderweireld?
The Belgian defender departed Spurs in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £11.7m on a three-year deal to the Doha-based side.
Alderweireld spent six years with the Lilywhites after making the move from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015 and went on to make 236 appearances for Spurs (via Transfermarkt).
Spurs fans flooded to the tweet from the club’s official Twitter account to share their emotions at the farewell message from the Belgian defender.
What exactly did these Spurs fans have to say?
“My day is ruined.”
“Right, I’m gonna go and cry now”
“I’m not crying, you’re crying”
“My heart can’t take any more of this”
“This really feels like the end of an era.”
“Top player. Gutted to see him go.”
Alderweireld’s departure comes amid the club’s expected rebuild of their defence, with Davinson Sanchez also believed to be a player who is up for sale this summer.
After six years with the north London side, it seems the Belgian left a lasting impression on these Spurs fans, who were clearly upset to see him leave the club.
