Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on his latest Twitch stream to discuss all things transfer related.

One name which received a particular mention was that of reported Tottenham Hotspur target, Cristian Romero.

Could Cristian Romero transform the Spurs defence?

It is believed Spurs have agreed on personal terms with the Argentine centre-back, however, a fee between themselves and Atalanta is still yet to be decided on.

Spurs have already struck a deal with the Serie A side earlier in this window for goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, who joined on an initial loan deal – with the option to make the move permanent.

However, speaking on Romero’s future, Romano remained confident of Spurs aiming to complete the signing this summer, with the Argentine said to be their ‘priority’.

“I’m confident because he’s the priority. Tottenham have a priority and the priority is Cristian Romero.

“Then, let’s see if they can reach an agreement with Atalanta, because you know from Italy, many say done deal, done deal. It was not a done deal this week; they’re negotiating, they’re talking, he is the priority – but it’s not yet a done deal.”

TIF Thoughts on Romero to Spurs…

With a defensive overhaul expected this summer at Spurs, we feel they could do with bringing in one marquee signing at centre-back and the Serie A defender of the year could well be that man.

Reports suggest the Argentine is wanting the move to Spurs to come to fruition, however, it appears the north London side are still holding out on their valuation of the player.

We think Spurs should just bite the bullet and pay up for Romero given there is now only a matter of weeks before the Premier League campaign begins and their current senior centre-back options only consist of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Joe Rodon – so signing the Argentine could replace Alderweireld and increase depth in one fell swoop.
