Tottenham Hotspur journalist has been speaking on a live stream to discuss the latest transfer news regarding the north London club.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a potential summer swoop for Atalanta’s centre-back, Cristian Romero.

Could Romero be Alderweireld's long term successor?

The defender has now reportedly agreed to join the north London side this summer, but it is down to the two clubs to agree on a fee for the potential transfer.

It is believed the club are looking for an offer in the region of €55m (£47m) for the 23-year-old who played a large part in their successful domestic campaign last season.

Discussing the Argentine’s future, Gold had the following to say on Tottenham’s view of the potential transfer deal.

“The state of play with that one, as I’m aware today, is that there is still dialogue taking place to try and make that deal happen.

“It’s a very complicated one to do because it’s going to be big, big money. Tottenham, they’re not ones for just laying out big money as it is. So it is all about how it is structured and whether they meet the actual asking price.

“As I understand it, [Fabio] Paratici, I’ve spoken about his way of dealing with up to 10 players for each position. I understand Romero is the one he would like the most. Hopefully it will happen, as like I say it would be transformative for Tottenham’s defence.”

TIF Thoughts on Romero to Spurs…

Romero’s reputation has soared over the course of the last year with the defender playing in Argentina’s triumph and being awarded defender of the season accolade.

Tottenham’s most experienced defender, Toby Alderweireld, is said to be looking for a move away this summer after his six years in north London.

We feel if they can complete the signing of Romero this summer then they will have a player who could prove to be a long-term replacement for Alderweireld given the promise he has shown recently in Serie A.

However, it was previously reported Spurs are looking to sign two centre-backs this summer, so it will be interesting to see whether this is still the case given Romero’s reported hefty price tag.
