Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been speaking on his latest YouTube video to discuss all things transfer-related amid the summer market.

One of the main topics of discussion was the links to Atalanta defender Cristian Romero, who Spurs are reportedly in advanced talks over for a possible summer switch.

Do you think Spurs will sign Romero this week?

The Lilywhites have already acquired former Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, with their attention now believed to be on bringing the Argentine defender to the club.

It is believed a potential agreement for Romero would take an offer in the region of €55m (£47m) from Spurs, with the north Londoners reportedly submitting a bid worth €40m (£34.1m) plus €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons.

Discussing Tottenham’s reported interest in the Argentine, Gold had the following to say on the matter.

“From what I understand, Daniel Levy has given the green light to this deal to try and make it happen.

“It’s an interesting one because it really does show how much [Fabio] Paratici has essentially come in and if he wasn’t listening before, Levy, which obviously I’m not going to say he wasn’t, but certainly Paratici has come in and gone, ‘man, that defence needs a proper shake-up’.”

TIF Thoughts on Romero to Spurs…

It is expected Toby Alderweireld will depart the north London side this summer, with a move to Qatar looking increasingly likely after the Belgian flew out to Doha to discuss personal terms over the weekend.

In potentially losing Alderweireld, we feel Spurs need to bring in a player who will become their main starting centre-back, but can Romero be that man?

Well, despite being just 23 years old, Romero has already racked up a lot of experience in Serie A and was even named the league’s best defender for the 2020/21 campaign.

If Spurs are to sign Romero for a fee that would likely come in just below £50m, it makes us question whether there would be enough money available for Spurs to sign another quality centre-back, was their reported plan.
