Tottenham Hotspur legend Graham Roberts has urged new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo to make Leonardo Spinazzola one of his first signings.

Spinazzola has been one of the star performers at Euro 2020 and has reportedly attracted interest from European giants Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain thanks to his impressive displays for Italy.

The left wing-back recorded five assists and scored two goals in 27 Serie A appearances for Roma last season.

Spurs conceded 45 goals as they finished in a disappointing seventh place in the Premier League, meaning they will compete in the inaugural Europa Conference League rather than meeting their target of returning to the Champions League.

Among one of former Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno’s primary concerns will be to improve Spurs’ defensive record if they want to return to the top European competition.

Roberts, who shone for the north London club during his playing days, feels Spinazzola would provide an attacking threat at the same time as improving Spurs’ backline.

Speaking exclusively to TIF, Roberts said: “The lad I have liked at Euro 2020 is Italy’s left wing-back, Spinazzola.

“I think he would be absolutely perfect for our team. He is quick, gets forward and back. He’s right-footed as well and he is the player I would be going for.”
