Paul Stewart reckons that Tottenham could sign Juventus defender Leandro Bonucci on the cheap this summer.

Bonucci will be 35 before the end of next season, but his age isn’t slowing him down following his excellent form for both Juve and Italy at Euro 2020.

Should Tottenham make Laporte a priority?

Tottenham have a generally inexperienced backline, which could become even more so should Toby Alderweireld depart in the coming months, and therefore, according to Tuttomercatoweb, Bonucci is one of their summer targets.

Should Alderweireld move on, it would leave Nuno Espirito Santo with Eric Dier, who’s not proven at centre-half, whilst Davinson Sanchez is not up to the required standard and Joe Rodon has just a handful of Premier League appearances to his name.

Bonucci still has a number of years remaining on his contract in Turin, although the recent arrival of sporting director Fabio Paratici will do their chances of bringing the Italian to north London no harm.

And therefore, Stewart exclusively told This is Futbol that he would welcome the deal for a season or two:

“Chelsea did the same with Thiago Silva, who’s getting on a bit. So, it’s not going to be long-term, but they could get him cheap at 34.”
