In an exclusive interview with This Is Futbol, former Tottenham defender Graham Roberts has urged his old side to make a move for Manchester City star Aymeric Laporte.

According to The Athletic, the north London club are hoping to sign two new centre-backs this summer, with Toby Alderweireld’s future in serious doubt.

Meanwhile, Laporte’s own future at his current side also looks to be far from certain. In fact, the same outlet have previously reported that Manchester City have discussed including Laporte in any potential deal for Harry Kane with Tottenham.

Should Tottenham make Laporte a priority?

And now Roberts has told Spurs to have a serious look at the £40.5m-rated 27-year-old as they try to bolster their defence ahead of the new season.

“Laporte, Man City, he’s not playing,” the Tottenham legend said. “There’s a few. Let’s have a look around but go and get two decent centre-halves – and we need a full-back.

“I don’t care about the rest of the pitch, because we have enough players. But get that, get those three sorted and we will have a decent team.”

Laporte really did find himself on the fringes at times last season, with Pep Guardiola preferring a central defensive partnership of Ruben Dias and John Stones.

It means there could be an opportunity here for Nuno Espirito Santo to snap up Laporte, who did make an impact whenever he did play.

As per WhoScored, no City player managed to win more aerial duels per league game (2.6) than the Spain international.
