Journalist and Saints supporter Simon Peach has recently talked about the idea of Southampton having to sell James Ward-Prowse.

Earlier this summer, Aston Villa were linked with a move for the Saints midfielder. It was stated that Villa were set to make an offer for the Englishman as Dean Smith is keen to bring in new signings as soon as possible.

Peach appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the United We Stand podcast and he also talked about Southampton. One topic of discussion was Ward-Prowse and his future at the St. Mary’s this summer.

With plenty of Saints players leaving for bigger Premier League clubs in recent years, Peach stated that losing the midfielder in a similar fashion would break the hearts of Southampton fans as he’s ‘the heartbeat of the side’.

He stated: “James Ward-Prowse is the heartbeat of the side. A Pompey boy that has seen the right side and come to the good side. He’s the one that would really break Southampton fans’ hearts. He’s your captain, he’s come through your academy. If he doesn’t want to be there, what have you got?”

TIF Thoughts on Ward-Prowse’s future…

In the Premier League last season, Ward-Prowse played every minute and that is a reflection of how vital he is to the Saints side. No other player came up with more goal-creation actions from set-pieces than the midfielder, according to FBRef.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

It shows that he’s a very important player for the Saints and he also grabbed a pretty impressive WhoScored rating for his club last term. Given Ward-Prowse is still only 26 and has many years of football left in him, Southampton’s priority should be to keep him this summer or they’ll be losing a vital player.
