Journalist Pete O’Rourke has recently talked about the possibility of Southampton signing Blackburn Rovers star Adam Armstrong.

It was recently reported that Blackburn have turned down Southampton’s opening bid for Armstrong and the Championship side have also offered a new deal to the striker. Meanwhile, the future of Danny Ings is uncertain at Southampton.

O’Rourke was hosting the latest episode of Touchline Talk, where he discussed Southampton’s chase of Armstrong. The journalist revealed that the Saints are close to signing the striker this summer in an attempt to potentially replace Ings, who has turned down a contract offer from the Saints.

Do you think Armstrong will be a good Ings replacement?

O’Rourke talked about Armstrong, claiming: “I think they’re close to getting Adam Armstrong from Blackburn, who’s attracted interest from a few Premier League clubs. I think Everton, West Ham, Norwich have all looked at him. But from what I’m hearing, it is Southampton who are in the box seat to try and land the young forward, who enjoyed a really good season in the Championship last year.”

TIF Thoughts on Armstrong to Southampton…

It has been suggested that Rovers want a fee of £20m for Armstrong, but since the striker’s contract runs out in about 12 months, there might be a possibility of Southampton being able to sign him on the cheap.

Having said that, a lot of things may depend on how much Southampton sell Ings for. That will hand the Saints some money to pay a higher amount for Armstrong.

The 24-year-old had impressed in the 2020/21 campaign, having also done well in the 2019/20 season, so the striker could be a very good signing for the Saints if he is able to replicate his form in the top flight.
