It may come as a shock to Newcastle fans considering it is thought that Benitez didn’t want to sign Saint-Maximin during his tenure on Tyneside.

A lot of Newcastle fans have reacted angrily on Twitter to the latest report linking Saint-Maximin with a move away.

What have these Newcastle fans been saying?

“Add a few more zeros then we can talk Rafa pal”

“Why would ASM step down to play at Everton under a manager who didn’t want him?!”

@AndyC7A

“Well that’s not gonna happen be hell on if we sold him”

@JoelStoneman99

Test your knowledge of these Newcastle players' market values! How much do you think Miguel Almiron is worth?

Looking at the sort of players Benitez bought during his time at Newcastle, such as Matt Ritchie, Miguel Almiron, Christian Atsu and Isaac Hayden, Saint-Maximin doesn’t seem to fit into that same bracket of player.

Everton have brought in the likes of Alex Iwobi, Bernard, Theo Walcott and Richarlison in recent years, with only the latter ever netting more than five goals in a single league season for the Toffees, so splashing £60 million on Saint-Maximin, who himself has never netted more than three times in a season for the Magpies, could be a big risk.
