Journalist Stuart Jamieson has recently talked about Joe Willock’s potential move to Newcastle United and Mikel Arteta’s recent comments about the midfielder’s future.

Arsenal had lost to Hibernian in a friendly recently and Willock hadn’t featured, but Arteta confirmed that he had a groin injury and he’s part his plans. The Spaniard also stated that while Willock is at the club, they’ll make the most of him.

Jamieson appeared on the latest episode of the Everything is Black and White podcast where Willock’s future was discussed. The journalist believes that Arteta’s comments suggest that he’s leaving the door ‘more than ajar’ for Newcastle or another club to move for the midfielder.

Do you feel Newcastle will sign Willock again?

He claimed: “He didn’t want to say too much either way, really. If he was a big part of his plans going forward, he could’ve been a bit more concrete with that. It’s certainly left the door more than ajar for Newcastle, or any club for that matter, to pursue their interest. He wasn’t shooting it down, was he?”

TIF Thoughts on Willock…

It has been recently reported that Newcastle and Arsenal are close to striking a loan agreement for Willock, which suggests that the deal can still happen. Arteta’s comments certainly don’t provide any guarantee about Willock’s future and shows that Arsenal may be willing to do a deal.

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

The Englishman had impressed last season, scoring eight goals and grabbing a WhoScored rating of 7.13 for the Magpies. He’s certainly a capable midfielder and it does make sense for the Magpies to sign him.

While they may prefer to sign him permanently, if they can keep him on loan for another season, he’d only have a year left on his Arsenal contract – so Newcastle would potentially be able to sign him for a cheap fee next summer if he opts against a renewal.
