Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest piece of transfer news to emerge concerning the Tyneside club.

This comes after Newcastle-focused Twitter account @NUFC360 shared a post relaying news originally published in a report from The Telegraph.

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

The report claims that Steve Bruce’s side are interested in signing West Bromwich Albion centre-back Kyle Bartley for £3 million.

This post then quickly grabbed the attention of a lot of Toon supporters, who were not shy in sharing their thoughts on this latest claim.

So, what did these Newcastle fans have to say in response to this transfer claim linking the club with a move for Bartley?

“Here we go again in the bargain basement. When will Ashley ever learn about buying ready-made quality to play in the Premier League? C’mon Mike put your hand in your pocket for once or face relegation yet again !”

Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever so it’s probably gonna happen #NUFC

@LeazesEnds1892

“You have got to be joking”

@_lewisnufc_

“I hate the fact we get linked with horrendous names like this”

@LiamJKLawson

“That’s bleak”

@twinpistols

“Is Bruce just trying to get us relegated as that is his level? Embarrassing.”

@JG9129

“Oh dear”

@Stui_86

Looking at the replies to this post, it’s clear to see that these Newcastle fans are not particularly pleased by this latest claim linking the club with a move for Bartley this summer.

Would Kyle Bartley be a good fit for Newcastle?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Given how Bartley ended up getting relegated with West Brom last season, it’s understandable why these Toon supporters think he isn’t the sort of signing the club should be looking to make.

However, the fact that Bartley ended the season as West Brom’s third-highest-rated player out of players currently in the squad with an overall rating of 6.77/10 according to WhoScored, and the fact that Newcastle conceded a total of 62 goals in the league last season, perhaps adding Bartley to their squad could be quite a smart move.
