A lot of Newcastle United have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts at a recent post from the Tyneside club’s official account.

On Friday afternoon, the Toon announced their former goalkeeper, Steve Harper, as the new permanent academy .

Should NUFC move on from Steve Bruce?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Harper was given the job role on an interim basis earlier in the year, however, he will now take the role on a full-time basis as he extends his stay at the club having previously worked across various goalkeeper coaching roles at the club.

Over his career, Harper made 199 appearances for the Magpies in which he was able to keep 66 clean sheets including one in the Champions League (via Transfermarkt).

Newcastle fans flocked to the tweet from the Tyneside club’s official account and it is fair to say they were not overly pleased by the news.

What exactly did these Newcastle fans have to say?

“That’ll be the academy going even further downhill then..”

Having returned to the club in 2019, Harper has worked under Steve Bruce as part of his coaching staff with the aim of improving the path between the club’s academy and the senior side.

Going by the reaction of these Toon fans, it would appear this news does not come as good news to some with many fearing for the future of the academy.
