Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the performance of Dwight Gayle during the club’s preseason game against Rotherham United.
The 30-year-old forward didn’t have the best time last season when it came to getting on the pitch. First off he had to recover from his MCL injury that he picked up in pre-season, and then only went on to make 20 appearances in all competitions for Steve Bruce’s men, and could only find the back of the net once in that time.
Is Dwight Gayle good enough to play for Newcastle in the PL?
Yes
No
So you’d think that he’d want to get back into the rhythm of things before the new campaign starts, however that wasn’t the case against the League One side in the eyes of many Newcastle fans as he, along with the rest of the Newcastle side, really struggled at the New York Stadium.
Indeed, his performance, or lack thereof certainly didn’t escape the watching eyes of the fans at home, as they tore into him on social media:
“Lack of creativity and struggle to score goals is also a big problem. Gayle isn’t good enough even as a backup”
Hopefully he can get into the swing of things by the time the season starts, otherwise it could be a long season ahead for him if he can’t start finding the net now.
