A whole host of Newcastle United fans appear to have reacted negatively on Twitter to Steve Bruce’s latest striker comments.

Bruce appeared to suggest that he may not be looking for a striker this summer, stating (via The Shields Gazzette): “We’ve got Allan [Saint-Maximin], Joe[linton], [Miguel] Almiron. We’ve got Dwight [Gayle]. We’ve got five. How many do you have in a squad of 22 outfield players?”

The Magpies are still yet to sign anyone this transfer window despite seeing four players leave the club on permanent deals or as free agents.

Has Bruce done a good job at Newcastle?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Bruce made the comments following his side’s 1-1 draw against League One Rotherham United on Tuesday evening and finished the game with Jeff Hendrick as his main striker on the pitch.

Many Newcastle fans appeared furious on Twitter with Bruce’s latest comments.

What have these Newcastle fans had to say?

“Extremely worrying, expecting the very worst now!!!”

@Toonarmy007

“Think that confirms we’ll be sticking with 5-3-2 formation, seeing likes of ASM & Joelinton play as support strikers alongside Wilson or Gayle. Ridiculous risk to take when Carroll’s gone & Gayle not PL standard / often injured! This system doesn’t suit Almiron/Fraser, either.”

@NUFCblogcouk

“We have 2 natural strikers in Wilson and Gayle and that is me being kind to put Gayle in that bracket. If Wilson is injured, we are screwed.”

@Doyler88kek

“He really hasn’t a clue, the sooner he leaves the better”

@makaveli7peo

“He is clueless”

@Charlieboi554

“Bruce doesn’t seem to understand what a centre-forward is.”

@wsjack3

Besides Callum Wilson and Joe Willock, who is no longer a Newcastle player, the Magpies’ top scorers last season were Miguel Almiron and Joelinton with four goals in the league, so if their number nine falls foul of injuries this upcoming season, the club could be in trouble.

Test your knowledge of these Newcastle players' market values! How much do you think Miguel Almiron is worth?

Luke Edwards has claimed that the club will be bringing in new faces before the end of the transfer window, but did not comment on who they were likely to be – though these comments hardly inspire confidence in the supporters that Newcastle will get what they need this summer.
