Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest transfer claim to emerge concerning Toon midfielder Isaac Hayden.

This comes after Twitter account @NUFC360 shared a post on their page relaying news originally published in an article for The Sun by journalist Alan Nixon.

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

The article claims that fellow Premier League club Southampton are interested in signing Hayden from Newcastle this summer, with Steve Bruce’s men reportedly making him available for £10 million.

This post then quickly grabbed the attention of a lot of Toon supporters who were not shy in sharing their thoughts on this latest transfer claim.

So, what did these Newcastle fans have to say in response to this claim linking Southampton with a move for Hayden?

“Noooooooo!”

@julie_shanks

“Would be a mad sale at that price, but this is Ashley’s NUFC so money talks. He will develop into a top centre half and is perfect for our 3 CB system if we hang onto him”

@ScottSWilli

This is madness. He is worth more than that And our best defensive midfielder #nufc

@808toon

“Absolute joke if we let Isaac hayden go only player we have that can sit in midfield and tackle and break down opposition plays can’t see the likes of shelvey and hendrick doin that”

@SteveNUFC12

“Rubbish”

@wessas68

“He’s not available.”

@HaddawayMan

“That’s shocking it’s only £10 million but if we reinvest that into Boubacar Kamara for £15 million then ok.”

@Josh91127080

“This is dumb if true.. with our midfield and the fact he’s an English midfielder.. the bloke is worth A LOT more than £10m to newcastle.. who could we get, of his quality for £10m?? nowt”

@TheFatbellyFred

Looking at the replies to this post, it seems that these Newcastle fans definitely would not be happy to see their club sell Hayden this summer, especially for the reported fee claimed by Nixon in the article.

Do you think Newcastle should sell Hayden this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Given how only five outfield players picked up a higher overall season rating than Hayden for his performances throughout the 2020/21 Premier League season for Newcastle according to WhoScored, it’s understandable why these Toon fans wouldn’t want to see the midfield man depart St. James’ Park this summer.

In our view, with Hayden’s current contract at Newcastle not set to expire until 2026, it does seem unlikely that the club would be open to letting him leave to join another Premier League team anytime soon.
