Journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently talked about Manchester United’s move for Rennes star Eduardo Camavinga.

It has been recently reported that Man United are exploring the possibility of signing Camavinga this summer and they hold a long-standing interest in the Frenchman. They were looking to sign him two years ago, but they ended up signing Hannibal Mejbri from Monaco instead (as per The Athletic).

Is Camavinga a good replacement for Matic?

Romano appeared in the latest video on the Don Robbie YouTube channel and he talked about multiple potential transfers in European football, giving some insight about United’s chase of Camavinga.

The journalist stated that United are progressing in talks for the midfielder. He claimed: “Manchester United are in direct contact with people close to the player and close to Rennes, they want to sign him this summer.

“Because they know that waiting for next summer as a free agent is a big opportunity [from] a financial point of view, but many clubs will be in the race. Maybe also clubs from Spain – Real Madrid or Barcelona, these kind of clubs – and not only clubs from other countries right now. So Manchester United are progressing in talks, they want Camavinga. We will see if they make an official bid in the coming days.”

TIF Thoughts on Camavinga…

Nemanja Matic is still at United, but the Serbian isn’t getting any younger. He could play only 20 Premier League games in the 2020/21 season, while featuring in just 36 games in all competitions (as per Transfermarkt).

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

Because of his age and diminishing prominence, United may have to replace him soon. Camavinga is still a teenager and already has loads of first-team experience. He can play in defensive midfield, central midfield and even further forward – so could offer a range of talents wherever he ends up should he depart Rennes.

Therefore, signing the youngster for a cheap fee could be a very good move for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this summer.
