Noted transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester United are in the process of handing Bruno Fernandes a new contract at the club.

To say that the Portuguese playmaker has made an impact since signing for the Red Devils would be a gross understatement. The 26-year-old has played 80 games for the club and has so far racked up 40 goals and 25 assists, winning the club’s Player of the Year award two seasons in a row and being picked in the most recent PFA Team of the Year.

So it’s fair to say that if Manchester United are to take the next step forward as a club, he is likely going to play a major part in their quest for success.

And that’s a policy that the hierarchy at Manchester United seem to agree with, as speaking on the latest edition of the Here We Go podcast, Romano claimed that the club are set to offer him a new deal at Old Trafford:

“They are talking with Bruno on a new contract with his agents, too. I think this month we will have some answers about how the negotiation is going. But of course, they want to extend Bruno’s contract and they want to reward Bruno with a new contract.”

Will Bruno Fernandes sign a new contract?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

It does come across as a bit of a no-brainer to offer Fernandes a new contract given his importance to the team, so hopefully they do manage to get a deal signed, because he is certainly a player that they will not want to see walk out the door and potentially come back to haunt them further down the line.

This new deal should just be the start of the next era for Manchester United, because Fernandes comes across as a player that will draw others to the club because of the impact he can have with others.

He created 4.88 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League last season – the fifth-best total in the league – now they just need to bring in players that he can get the best out of.
