Dean Windass has categorically ruled out Manchester United signing Kieran Trippier – and said he would be a complete waste of money.

Trippier left the Premier League for Atletico Madrid two years ago and won the La Liga title during his second season in the Spanish capital.

However, following an impressive European Championships with England, which included a pin-point assist for Luke Shaw’s opener in the final, the versatile full-back has been linked with a quick return to England with the Red Devils.

Trippier, who racked up 107 Premier League appearances at Burnley and then Tottenham, is keen on a move to Old Trafford, with Atletico asking for around £30m for his services.

Would Romero improve Man United?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

As shown in the Euro’s, Trippier is comfortable playing at both right and left-back, although United already have Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, which means the ex-Spurs defender would have a tough task on his hands in dislodging either of those.

With that in mind, Windass exclusively told This is Futbol that it’s a deal he’d be shocked to see happen:

“I can’t see that happening, it would be a waste of money. Wan-Bissaka is number one for Manchester United and in his third season, he will only get better, so no chance.

“I’m usually wrong on this, but I can’t see Trippier signing for Manchester United.”
