Joe Rimmer has been speaking on the Blood Red podcast about how Harvey Elliott could replace Xherdan Shaqiri.

Elliott spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, where he managed to score seven goals and register 11 assists – which saw him nominated for the Young Player of the Season award.

The other man in conversation is Shaqiri, who has been linked with a move back to Serie A, where he spent one season with Inter, but this time he has been tipped for a move to either Lazio or Napoli.

Elliott could be in line for some first-team minutes at Anfield next season, according to Rimmer.

“You want them to reinvest the money [from selling Shaqiri] and don’t want them to go into the season leaving themselves short. I think they can use this money in other areas, and they can use Harvey Elliott to sort of replace Shaqiri and then spend on another forward.

“[Divock] Origi’s another one, isn’t he, that you think if they can move him on, they’ll certainly need a forward there – so I think Harvey Elliott becomes a real option.”

How many goals has Mohamed Salah scored in all competitions this season?

Elliott was signed when just 16 years old after making his Premier League debut with Fulham during the 2018/19 season under Scott Parker and after a full season in first-team football with Blackburn, the winger could be set for a big leap.

Given the plaudits he has received to date, it seems the Reds clearly know they have a star on their hands, and the fact Jurgen Klopp is giving him minutes in pre-season suggests that Elliott could be in line for some appearances with the first team this upcoming campaign.
