Journalist Matt Addison has claimed that Liverpool should be all over Danish star Mikkel Damsgaard, suggesting that a deal for the star would ‘make sense’.

Damsgaard has been impressive at the European Championships as Denmark reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by England at Wembley.

During the tournament, the Dane played in five games and scored two goals whilst also providing an assist, and received a WhoScored rating of 7.28 for his stellar performances during the tournament.

His performances come as Massimo Ferrero, president of Sampdoria – where Damsgaard currently plays his club football – insisted that it would take a ‘big offer’ to prise him away from the Serie A club (as per the Daily Star).

Addison has suggested during the most recent Blood Red podcast that Liverpool should make a move for the exciting Danish youngster.

“I was really excited, actually, to see him against England, at Wembley, on that big stage, to kind of see how he copes with it.

“He only turned 21 earlier this week, and I think he wasn’t on the pitch for as long as I thought he might have been – I think they took him off slightly too early, to be honest.

“I think he was one of those that did really impress – obviously, the free-kick, but the other parts of it as well, I think in that kind of atmosphere, that sort of occasion.

“He’s played for Sampdoria for a season, he’s played in Serie A, it’s not like he’s just appeared out of nowhere. But I think to be that good on that sort of stage, I think was a really telling sign of the promise that he has.

“I think that the price tag may well have gone up a little bit off the back of these Euros. I think they bought him for about six or seven million euros last summer. They’re going to make a significant amount on that.

“But I think a €40 million-ish thing, wouldn’t be completely out of the question for Liverpool. And I think there was some sort of quotes, I think from their chief executive or director of football or whatever kind of saying, you know, look, he’s had such a good Euros, there is going to be interest, there’s a good chance that we do lose him.

“I think there’s a good chance that Damsgaard does move on this summer. And I think it would kind of make sense for Liverpool.”

TIF Thoughts on Damsgaard to Liverpool…

Damsgaard played a really important role for Sampdoria last season, in what was his first season in one of the top leagues in the world, making 37 appearances in all competitions, with his versatility allowing him to play in numerous different roles during the course of the campaign. Damsgaard’s appearances included 35 games in Serie A, with the Dane starting 18 of the games as Sampdoria did well to manage the youngster’s game time.

Since selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, it could be argued that the Reds have missed a true attacking midfielder, with Roberto Firmino coming in for criticism on occasion. Damsgaard could provide that and more, with his versatility allowing him to play in numerous positions, as seen from last season at Sampdoria.

Having just turned 21, Damsgaard’s performances at the Euros are bound to have caught the eye of many top clubs across Europe, so Liverpool – and Addison – may not be alone in thinking he could be a good fit.
