Journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently talked about Liverpool’s interest in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Neuhaus in recent weeks but it has been suggested that even though they’ve lost Georginio Wijnaldum, they may not add another midfielder to their ranks. If they do sign a midfielder, bringing in Neuhaus from Gladbach could become a possibility.

Romano appeared on the latest video of the Anfield Watch YouTube channel and spoke about Liverpool’s interest in Neuhaus. The transfer insider stated that the German is ‘appreciated’ by the Reds, but Gladbach want to keep him – and the midfielder might be waiting for a move for Bayern Munich in any case.

He stated: “Talking about Neuhaus, he’s a player highly appreciated with different skills, totally different from Renato [Sanches]. He could be a player different from Liverpool’s style, so maybe they need this kind of player for his quality, for his different vision.

“They’ve been scouting him, they appreciate him a lot. But the real problem in this case is the club. Because Borussia Monchengladbach will try to keep the player for one more season, they’re fighting to convince him to stay for one more season.

“And also, the player knows about the potential opportunity to join Bayern Munich maybe next summer in 2022. For German players, when you have Bayern Munich looking at you, it’s a big chance.

“So at the moment, the situation is still quiet because Neuhaus knows about Borussia Monchengladbach’s intentions to keep him. That’s why the deal is not progressing or nothing is going on. Liverpool have been in touch with his agent some weeks ago, they’ve always been interested in the situation, but nothing in terms of talks in this case.”

TIF Thoughts on Neuhaus to LFC…

Neuhaus has certainly drawn comparisons to Wijnaldum because of how much he can play regularly and also because of his playing style.

The German currently has a release clause of €40 million (£34.2 million) and that isn’t an expensive amount at all, especially considering that he’s still only 24 and can still improve in the future.

Therefore, signing Neuhaus could be a very good option for the Reds – but as Romano pointed out, it may well depend on whether Bayern Munich come after him or not. If they pay his reported release clause, Liverpool may not be able to sign him.
