Journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently provided an update regarding the future of Leicester City star Youri Tielemans.

There has been talk of Tielemans being linked (via Liverpool Echo) with a move to Leicester’s Premier League rivals Liverpool and his current contract at the King Power Stadium runs out in the summer of 2023.

Romano talked about the future of the Leicester star and any interest from Liverpool when he appeared in the latest video on the Anfield Watch YouTube channel. He stated that Leicester have been offering him a contract over the last few weeks but the midfielder is currently on holiday.

Should Leicester consider Tielemans' contract a priority?

Romano revealed the latest on the Belgian’s future while talking about Liverpool’s potential interest, saying:

“In the case of players like Tielemans, it is complicated because Leicester are offering him a new contract [in recent] weeks. The player is now on holiday, he wants to wait and will decide about his future when he will be back. But signing Tielemans, not just for Liverpool – for any club this summer – means spending a lot of money. I think more than £50-£60 million and it’s not easy in this summer.

“So we’ll see what he’ll decide about the new contract with Leicester, they’re offering him this new contract. The player has not given an answer yet because he prefers to wait, stay on holiday and then decide with his agent.”

TIF Thoughts on Tielemans’ future…

Tielemans scored the goal which helped the Foxes win the FA Cup last season. In the Premier League, the Belgian had impressed a fair bit by racking up a very good WhoScored rating for the Foxes last term as he directly contributed to 10 goals (as per WhoScored).

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

It clearly shows the importance that he carries for Brendan Rodgers’ side, and considering that he played in the European Championship for Belgium, his stock may have risen a fair bit – so handing him a new deal should be a priority for Leicester.
