Leeds United presenter Joe Wainman has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the Yorkshire club making a move to sign Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera this summer.

This comes after Wainman recently uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel where he spoke about the latest news topics surrounding Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

It was recently reported by Venezuelan outlet FUTVE English (as per The Sun) that fellow Premier League club West Ham United have made a bid to sign Herrera. With Leeds also in the running, Wainman had this to say on the matter.

He said: “It’s been reported that West Ham have made an offer for him at around £20 million, so if Leeds are after Yangel Herrera, they’re in between a rock and a hard place now where they’re waiting for Conor Gallagher and there’s also Yangel Herrera, who I do think is a credible link and one that we are really interested in, but West Ham putting money on the table, we may lose both targets.

“Victor Orta, I don’t like to give him stick, but it’s like pull-your-finger-out time.

“I know there’s a long way to go yet, but pre-season is literally tomorrow, the season starts on the 14th of August, it’s soon come and we want that winger as well.

“I know we have enough in the side to start the season, but we do want players in don’t we, we do want players in.”

Herrera joined Manchester City back in 2017 from Atletico Venezuela for an undisclosed fee. Since then, the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £16.2 million according to Transfermarkt, has had loan spells at New York City FC, SD Huesca and Granada CF.

TIF Thoughts on Joe Wainman’s comments on a potential move for Herrera…

Given how Herrera has yet to make an appearance for the champions since signing for them, it seems likely that he won’t be involved in Pep Guardiola’s squad this season and could well be on his way out of the club, opening up a potential move to West Ham or Leeds, as has been reported.

Do you think Leeds should sign Yangel Herrera this summer?

However, with the Hammers having reportedly put a bid in for the midfielder, Leeds will have to get a move on if they are serious about securing his signature this summer.

In our view, given how Herrera managed to end his 2020/21 season on loan with Granada with an overall season rating of 6.79/10, making him the second-highest-rated player to have started more than one La Liga game according to WhoScored, perhaps he could provide Leeds with some strength in midfield alongside Kalvin Phillips.
