This comes after Donnohue made an appearance on a recent edition of The Blue White and Yellow Podcast, where he spoke about a range of topics concerning Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
On the subject of Summerville, who played and scored in Leeds’ recent 3-2 pre-season friendly win over Guiseley, Donnohue had this to say about the player and his future at the club.
He said: “Whether he will still be at Leeds and will not go on loan is obviously a debate for another day, but I think he definitely did well in Bielsa’s eyes – he was obviously there – for staking a claim that actually he can make a push for a first-team place in future.”
Summerville joined Leeds’ U23 side back in September last year from Feyenoord’s U19s for an undisclosed fee.
TIF Thoughts on Joe Donnohue’s comments on Summerville…
Given how the Dutchman managed to score six goals and provide seven assists in 14 appearances for Leeds’ U23s and now scoring in front of Bielsa in their win over Guiseley, it’s easy to see why Donnohue thinks the winger could be in contention to be featured in Leeds’ senior side at some point in the future.
Do you think Summerville should be in the first team squad this season?
In our view, with current Leeds winger Helder Costa being previously linked with a move away from the club this summer, Summerville should become a regular in Bielsa’s squad next season if Costa does end up moving away, as not only would it give the Dutchman a great chance to show what he can do in the first team, but could also save the club money in having to potentially sign a new winger.
