Leeds United presenter Joe Wainman has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the Yorkshire club potentially making a move to sign Manchester United winger Dan James, following links between the Welshman and the Elland Road side.

This comes after Wainman recently uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel where he spoke about the latest news topics surrounding Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

After it was recently reported in The Sun that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is “reluctant” to let James leave this summer “partly because Marcus Rashford may miss a chunk of the start of the campaign through injury”, Wainman had this to say on the situation.

He said: “Now, the main reason that Dan James is still a Manchester United player is because of this information around Marcus Rashford.

“If Marcus Rashford doesn’t have to go through surgery, and he’s all good to go for the start of the season, then it sounds like Manchester United would be willing to listen to offers, either permanent or loan, for Dan James.

“Now, we know that Victor Orta and the club have already said that they expect [the club’s search for a] winger to go late into the window.

“Manchester United, Dan James, they’re holding on, are they waiting to see on Rashford and then they are going to go ‘Victor, you can have Dan James’?

“So, it’s just something to keep your eyes on. If Rashford doesn’t have to go for surgery, then you might see some movement for Dan James.

“And even if that’s to another club other than Leeds United, at least we can wipe our hands of it and say, yeah, it’s definitely not happening now, he’s moved elsewhere, but we’ll have to wait and see on that.”

James signed to Manchester United back in the 2019 summer transfer window for a fee of £16 million.

Since then, the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £16.2 million according to Transfermarkt, has made 72 appearances for the Manchester club, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists along the way.

TIF Thoughts on Joe Wainman’s comments on a potential summer move for James…

As well as the uncertainty around Rashford’s fitness, the fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have just spent £73 million to bring Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford suggests to us that James could well be pushed down the pecking order due to Sancho’s arrival, and the fact that the England winger scored 50 goals and provided 64 assists in 137 appearances for his previous club Borussia Dortmund, potentially opening the door for someone to sign James.

Do you think Leeds should try and sign Dan James this summer?

No

Given how Leeds were once previously close to signing James back in the 2019 January transfer window and how it has since been reported that the club could once again reignite their interest in signing the winger, it does seem that if the club spot an opportunity to secure James, they will.
