Leeds United journalist Beren Cross has been sharing some details regarding the potential signing of Chelsea teenager Lewis Bate.
This comes after Cross made an appearance on a recent edition of The Blue White and Yellow podcast, where he spoke about a range of topics concerning the Yorkshire club.
After it was recently reported that Leeds are close to signing the 18-year-old midfielder from Chelsea, Cross had this to say on the situation.
He said: “It does sound like that one is moving forward quite quickly now.
“Several sources, especially at the Chelsea end, are saying that it’s very, very close now, i.e., a fee is agreed, it’s personal terms and a medical next.”
Bate, who is a product of Chelsea’s youth academy, has made 29 appearances for their U18 side, in which he managed to score six goals and provide five assists.
The central midfielder has also made 25 appearances for the west London club’s U23 side (per Transfermarkt).
TIF Thoughts on Beren Cross’ comments on a potential Leeds move for Bate…
Listening to what Cross had to say, it seems as though a move to Leeds for Bate could well be on the cards this summer.
Are you excited by Leeds' current youth players?
Yes
No
Given how the U23s have already signed some new players this summer such as Sean McGurk and Amari Miller, the potential addition of Bate just goes to show how much the club wants to improve their youth side and sign players that they can develop and potentially turn them into regular first-team players for the future.
In our view, with Leeds taking such an interest in adding younger players to the club, this says to us just how focused the club’s owners are in regarding their long-term vision for the Yorkshire club, which should be very pleasing for the fans.
