Aston Villa are planning their future with John McGinn at the club amid interest from Liverpool, journalist Luke Hatfield has told This Is Futbol.

According to The Athletic, Jurgen Klopp has an interest in the player as he looks to replace Gini Wijnaldum.

The same outlet also states that while Villa rate McGinn highly, a bid between £45-50m is something they could possibly entertain.

All in all, Liverpool’s interest is thought to be “very real”, but Hatfield says Villa have not been imagining life without their key midfielder.

“They’re planning their future with him at the club, as they are with Jack Grealish,” the Express & Star journalist said. “Grealish would probably be the more likely to depart this summer if it was between the two of them.

“But Villa are planning to have both of them there for next season and pushing on once again.”

After almost being relegated at the end of the 2019/20 season, Villa managed to have a much better campaign last term, finishing in 11th.

It is something manager Dean Smith will surely want to build on, perhaps pushing for Europe, making it vital that the Villans do not sell off all of their key assets like McGinn and Grealish, with the latter continuing to attract interest from Manchester City.
