Marcus Bent reckons that whilst Sergio Romero would prove good competition for Jordan Pickford, he will only sign for Everton with the number one spot in his sights.
The Argentine goalkeeper had been with Manchester United for six seasons but only played seven Premier League games during that period.
Do you think that Benitez going to Everton was a good idea?
No, they won't appreciate him
Yes, he will do a good job
And having lost his place as David De Gea’s back-up following the return of Dean Henderson last season, the 34-year-old wasn’t involved in a single first-team match and was then released in June.
According to Football Insider, Everton, who need to replace Robin Olsen after his loan deal expired, are interested in bringing the experienced free agent to Goodison Park this summer to compete with Pickford for the number one jersey.
Romero hasn’t played much football in recent years, but is an experienced face on the international stage, and Bent exclusively told This is Futbol that he wouldn’t sign to make up the numbers:
“Massive, absolutely massive, him coming in. I don’t think he would come in as number two, he probably wants to go somewhere and start.
“I think he’s good enough to start, I’m not saying he’s good enough to challenge Pickford, but at this point in his career, I think he wants to go and start.”
