However, having spent four years in the French capital whilst racking up for than 50 international caps in his career, Meunier offers a wealth of experience and has been a winner throughout his career – claiming more than 10 domestic titles with PSG.

Everton themselves have another experienced face in captain Seamus Coleman as their first-choice right-back, but the Toffees legend turns 33 in October and would surely welcome some competition.

That could pave the way for Meunier, who quickly Dortmund’s first-choice right-back following his move from PSG but featured just twice in their final eight Bundesliga matches.

And former Evertonian Ball reckons his stature is exactly what the Toffees need moving forward under Benitez.

He told This is Futbol:

“At Liverpool he had Jamie Carragher, but he bought in other experienced players alongside Jamie, who helped the younger players flourish.

“And I think that’s what Everton need, players like Thomas Meunier are the type of character Everton would like.”
