Rafa Benitez could be keen to link-up with Ayoze Perez for a second time by persuading the winger to join Everton, according to Marcus Bent.

Benitez has replaced Carlo Ancelotti as the Toffees’ new manager despite swathes of supporters being against the appointment due to the Spaniard’s time with arch-rivals Liverpool.

The former Real Madrid head coach is looking to bolster his squad after Everton missed out on bagging a European qualification spot last season.

Among those potentially on Benitez’s wish-list is Perez, who shone during their time together at Newcastle United.

Perez left St James’ Park after a five-year spell in favour of a switch to Leicester City two years ago.

Despite winning the FA Cup last term, Perez has seen his playing time limited at the King Power Stadium and could be seeking a new challenge where regular football is guaranteed.

Bent, who was on Everton’s books between 2004 and 2006, feels Benitez would be interested in welcoming Perez to Goodison Park this summer.

Speaking exclusively to TIF, Bent said: “If a manager has a player they clicked with and did really well, they are going to be interested.

“I think he is someone who is probably on his radar. Perez went to Leicester and probably hasn’t done so well there. They won the Premier League when no-one thought they would and now no-one knows whether they are going to win or lose against Leicester because of their playing style and system.

To kick off this quiz on Everton transfers, which player was the Toffees' club-record transfer fee paid on according to Transfermarkt?

“Perez has been out of favour at Leicester. Everton have picked up players who are not playing in the Premier League, in the Championship, and taking them on to be good players. Benitez might feel that he’s still got class and quality to come in ahead of going to the new stadium.

“Maybe he wouldn’t start in the Everton first 11 but he could be a squad player.”
